Pittcon to Participate in International Year of Chemistry (IYC)
22 Jun 2010: Extra activities to celebrate the International Year of Chemistry (IYC) at Pittcon 2011 have been announced. The extra programs include Science Week, which will serve the city of Atlanta and surrounding microplates, and on a more global level, and the Technical Program, which will include sessions on how chemical research is critical for solving global problems involving food, water, health, energy and transportation.

Human Oncostatin M is Functionally Equivalent to Mouse LIF in Supporting Mouse ES Cell Pluripotency & Germline Competency
21 Jun 2010: In this application note R&D Systems demonstrate human OSM is able to maintain ES cell pluripotency in a similar manner to mouse LIF, including long-term maintenance of pluripotency and the ability to differentiate in vitro, the ability to activate STAT3, and germline transmission competency. The study suggests that OSM may be an additional factor that plays a role in early embryonic development and that it may be used as an alternative to LIF in mouse ES cell culture.
